Kayla is a Toronto based singer-songwriter and recent graduate of Humber College’s Bachelor of Music program. Before moving to Toronto, she spent her childhood living in Asia where she trained in modern dance, voice, musical theatre, music theory and guitar. While attending Humber College, she found a love for songwriting and recording music that explores the intersections of folk, rock, country, R&B, and pop genres.
For the past 4 years, Kayla has provided virtual voice, songwriting, early childhood music, beginner guitar and beginner piano lessons. While she utilizes technique and theory to build a strong foundation, her focus as a teacher is on creation and helping students find their own relationship to music. She recognizes how music can assist in self discovery, developing communication skills and confidence building in adolescents. Thus, she takes an individualized approach to lesson and homework plans based on each student’s goals, interests and learning styles. Creating a safe, fun, creative and calm learning environment is of utmost importance to Kayla.
