I’m an experienced piano teacher currently looking to settle down and expand my student base here, in the Junction/Bloor West area. I have over 13 years of experience teaching music to children and adults of all ages and have been lucky to have successful student/teacher relationships by keeping my students engaged and happy. Music should be an enjoyable, relaxing, and creative endeavour. If it ever gets boring or hard, I strive to change our patterns to keep things fun, and of course, keeping open lines of communication about what my students expect from me and want to get out of their lessons.
My goal is to ensure that you get an exceptional music education while having a really great experience! I offer lessons in piano and music theory and I personalize my lesson plan to suit each students individual learning style.
Ages range from 5 to adult (seniors welcome!). Pre-reading method books are used for children of kindergarten age and other libraries used include: Faber Piano Adventures, Alfred’s, and others. Each series also comes with accompanying theory books full of fun games, music mazes, coloring, creative discovery, as well as sight reading and ear training exercises.
Royal Conservatory of Music exam preparation is available for grades 1 through 8 practical and theory rudiments. I have had great results with my students’ RCM exams and always encourage a comfortable progression at his or her own pace.
I am a strong believer in engaging my students through creative and inspiring ways of learning – including encouraging students to use skills to create their own music, playing pop music, and I also use stickers and prizes as practice incentives for kids! Piano not only teaches children how to read music but helps them develop strong cognitive skills such as integrating both sides of the brain for more efficient learning, calming hyperactivity, and improving creativity and clarity.
Eventually, my goal is to secure a position in this wonderful community where I can open a school with my colleagues and offer a variety of music lessons (guitar, piano, vocal, drums, violin…), as well as offer a space for music therapy and other exciting ventures. This has been a dream of mine for some time, and I’d like to invite YOU to be a part of making this dream come true!
I currently teach from my home studio (which I share with my dear kitty, Bear – persons with cat allergies take note!), or I’m also available to come to your home for lessons.
I look forward to sharing my love of music with you!
