We are happy to see our students online for virtual lessons, as well as in-person at our studio! Increased precautions have been taken to support both student and teacher’s health and safety. Please email us for more information about how we are making our studio a clean and comfortable environment.
Registering as a student with Annette Street Music entitles you to a specific time slot each week (or as scheduled) with your teacher. To ensure lesson times are managed for both student and teacher, lessons must be canceled by 9am on the day of the lesson to be eligible for a make up. Students may schedule one make up lesson per term. Make up lessons must be scheduled within the term that they are missed. Make ups (or lesson payment credit) will not be carried over to the next month.
Once a make up lesson is scheduled between teacher and student it cannot be rescheduled by the student. If the teacher needs to cancel or reschedule a make up lesson, the fee will be credited to the student as either a lesson, or a cash credit to the student account.
Students are expected to arrive on time for lessons, no extra time will be made up for lateness.
New students are always welcome! (Ages 5 – Adult). Pre-reading method books are available for children of kindergarten age.
Piano method libraries used: Royal Conservatory of Music Repertoire, Faber Piano Adventures, Alfred’s Basic Piano Library, Bastien Piano Basics, Wunderkeys Piano method books, Adult beginner books, and more! Most methods are also paired with accompanying theory books that include supportive sight reading and ear training exercises. Theory activities for children often include interactive games, music mazes, colouring, creative discovery, etc.
Royal Conservatory of Music exam preparation is available as well as theory rudiments for all levels. Our instructors always prioritize and encourage a comfortable progression for each individual student.
Our studio holds two formal recitals per school year, as well as regular Open Mic Nights once or twice per term. Performance opportunities encourage our students to polish their pieces, share their talents with their peers, actively engage in our community, and sharpen their skill!
Strings lessons are tailored to suit each student’s needs and include learning and memorizing repertoire, improvising, technique, theory, reading and writing music, listening, and composing. Our instructors enjoy working out solo guitar & uke arrangements for songs that our students are interested in which are suitable to the student’s playing ability.
New this fall! Instructor Guillermo D’Acosta will be leading small group sessions at the studio on Saturday afternoons. Guitar / Uke / Percussion Club groups are designed to have students enjoy time playing together again.
Private or semi-private voice classes are offered with our vocal instructors. Building strong vocal techniques, singing fun and accessible songs, and encouraging healthy voice habits are a focus for our voice classes.
New this fall! Instructor/Musician Mike Evin will be teaching students the fulfilling art of making their own music! Current and new students are welcome to explore this exciting new option.
We are strong believers in engaging our students through creative and inspiring ways of learning, including teaching students to use skills to create their own music through guided improvisation, playing popular music (radio hits, Broadway, movie & video game scores).
Learning an instrument not only teaches children how to read and interpret music but helps them develop strong cognitive skills and supports creative, outside-of-the-box, and critical thinking.
