Registering as a student with Annette Street Music entitles you to a specific time slot each week (or as scheduled) with your teacher. To ensure lesson times are maintained for both student and teacher, lessons must be canceled with 24 hours advance notice to be eligible for make up. Each student taking in-studio lessons may schedule one make up lesson per term. In-home students will make up lessons based on their teacher’s availability. Make up lessons must be made up within the term that they are missed. Make ups (or lesson payment credit) will not be carried over to the next month.
Once a make up lesson is scheduled between teacher and student it cannot be rescheduled by the student. If the teacher needs to cancel or reschedule a make up lesson, the fee will be credited to the student as either a lesson, or a cash credit to their account.
Students are expected to arrive on time for lessons, no extra time will be made up for lateness.
New students accepted! (Ages 5 – Adult). Pre-reading method books are available for children of kindergarten age.
Piano method libraries used: Royal Conservatory of Music Repertoire, Faber Piano Adventures, Alfred’s Basic Piano Library, Adult beginner books and more. Each series also comes with accompanying theory books that include supportive sight reading and ear training exercises. Theory for kids involves games, music mazes, colouring, creative discovery, and more.
Royal Conservatory of Music exam preparation is available as well as theory rudiments – Prelim to Advanced. Students that have completed exams have had exceptional results and our teachers encourage a comfortable progression for each individual student.
Our guitar lessons are tailored to suit each student’s needs and include learning and memorizing repertoire, improvising, technique, theory, reading and writing music, listening, and composing. Our guitar instructors enjoy working out solo guitar arrangements of pieces that our students are interested in which are suitable to the student’s playing ability.
Private or semi-private voice classes are offered with our vocal instructors. Building strong vocal techniques, encouraging healthy voice habits, and singing fun, accessible songs that students enjoy are a focus for our voice classes.
We are strong believers in engaging our students through creative and inspiring ways of learning, including teaching students to use skills to create their own music through guided improvisation, playing popular music (radio hits, Broadway, Disney music).
Learning an instrument not only teaches children how to read music but helps them develop strong cognitive skills such as integrating both sides of the brain for more efficient learning, and improving creativity and cognitive clarity.
